UNY-PRC Internships
Interns join UNY-PRC from a range of backgrounds and academic disciplines including sociology, history, English, human development, and ministry. Each cohort receives a slate of trainings in social science and humanistic research methods, an introduction to carceral studies, and opportunities to work with UNY-PRC scholars and community partners. Interns work collaboratively with scholars and community partners on projects aligned with their interests. Interns meet regularly via Zoom, share access to digital databases and research tools, and build a network of partnerships as they build skills. Interns attend the annual UNY-PRC Retreat in October and present their research at academic conferences throughout the year.
The UNY-PRC Work: Remote and In-Person Internships
UNY-PRC interns come from anywhere there is interest in and commitment to the work of truth-telling and liberation. While we focus on Upstate New York as our geographic scope, we welcome interns from anywhere. We offer remote, in-person, and hybrid internships.
We welcome new interns in cohorts because community-building is central to this work. Each cohort trains together, works individually and with groups, and meets for regular check-ins with mentors via Zoom.

UNY-PRC Interns and mentors will read and discuss Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor’s How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective this summer.
Discussion meetings will commence in June 2025.

Annual UNY-PRC Retreat
Each fall, all UNY-PRC folks retreat together in Upstate New York to share ideas, connect in person, and envision the future. Typically in October, the UNY-PRC “All Hands” Retreat offers interns an opportunity to affirm relationships with mentors and colleagues in person. Together, we dream BIG about our future.

Interns and affiliates represent academic institutions across Upstate New York – and beyond. UNY-PRC interns reach beyond the boundaries of their home institution to meet and work alongside students from other colleges and universities.
