Mallory Szymanski is a historian who writes about gendered experiences of police violence, mental health, and the promises and failures of reform. She is an associate professor of history and director of Africana Studies at Alfred University, and she teaches in prison through the Rochester Education Justice Initiative (REJI). She serves on the Community Advisory Board for Daniel’s Law in Rochester, NY. Mallory believes that “we keep us safe” and that intentional collaboration and resource-sharing among communities, students, scholars, and activists are essential to realizing the dream of a safe, secure future for us all.
